Kinja'd!!!

Are annoying as hell.

I may not know how to drive a manual, but let me assure you, I would love to learn. But that is because I am on this website, where 95% of us can't afford 99% of the cars on the FP. And the only people who can afford the cars on the FP (excluding the ones on this website) don't want a manual. Therefore, the companies that build these cars don't cater to the people who can't afford/aren't buying them. They are catering to the people who write astronomical checks while wearing monocles, suits and top hats.

SO SHAT UP PLOX.

Trust me, I want to see manuals back in sports/super/hypercars as much as the next person Opponaut/Jalop does, but it's just not going to happen. Maybe we'll continue to see it in lower priced stuff like Toyobarus, GTIs, STs, etc. Which are the only cars we can afford. Well, some of us.

To be fair I bet if they had an option for a manual in the new GT that would be the model that holds it's value the best. In fact I'm pretty damn sure they started with the TT3.5V6 auto because they want to have an even hotter TT5.2V8 as a special edition/model refresh down the line. Why go all out when you already have people blowing loads over the fact a new GT even exists? I will be gobsmacked if they don't make a collectors edition with a manual, and probably the flat-plane V8 as well.

They can make as many DCT's and 8spd autos as they want. I'm too busy drooling over the classics, thank you very much.

While I do agree with part of the sentiment that if the car had the OPTION for a manual trans they may sell a few more (not 200x more), there's no justification from those wearing the suits/ties/monacles to do so. They know they may gain an extra 0.5% of the market share, but in order to do so, they'd have to set up another jig for the installation of the manual, buy the manuals (which would effectively raise the price of all of the automatics), store them somewhere, modify common components to accept the new transmission (which may increase manufacturing costs if you have a different set of holes to drill out or a different mounting feature to stamp) let alone buy all of the constituent components (shifters, a gauge cluster that doesn't have P-R-N-D, wiring harnesses). After that's all said and done, in order to satisfy another 2,000 customers, they've lost their competitive edge pricing on the car to begin with.

That's probably not verbatim what goes on, but I have a feeling that a lot of that is.

I assure you, even though I'm a poor, college student without a job that I won't be buying a brand new Ford GT, solely because it has paddle shift.

Its always the beancounters' fault. Let the engineers run wild on an economy car and they'll give you a $75k set of rocket-propelled roller skates

Actually I've read three 4C reviews in auto publications that say the equivalent of this car is a third pedal away from being the greatest sports car in the world . I do think that's keeping them from stealing share from Lotus, but it doesn't apply to most cars. I agree with you on the issue, but as annoying as these comments are, the anti-comments are just as irritating and smug.
